### **Grid Trading Lifecycle**
| **Stage** | **Description** |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Grid Trigger (optional) | Choose to start grid orders immediately, or set a trigger price. The grid activates when the market price (Last price or Mark price) rises above or falls below your specified trigger price. |
| Initial structure | Based on the latest market price, the system places sell limit orders above the market and buy limit orders below it. The number of initial limit orders equals the number of grids + 1, since no position is held yet. One order (nearest to market) is the initial opening order waiting to execute. |
| Open osition | For neutral grids, the strategy begins with no initial position. The initial position is triggered when the market trades beyond the nearest price point after setup. |
| Grid Update | Initial sell orders for the neutral grid are placed above the current market price; buy orders are populated below. The price level nearest to the market is excluded. |
| Stop Trigger (optional) | Set a Stop\_upper\_limit and Stop\_lower\_limit. When the market price breaches either level, the grid stops — signaling the market is no longer oscillating within your range. |
| Order Cancellation | After the grid stops, choose whether to cancel all orders and close all positions manually or automatically. |
#### **Grid Creation Failures**
Grid creation may fail if:
* You already have an active grid strategy on the selected trading pair.
* You have open orders or positions on the selected symbol.
* You are in Hedge Mode — switch to One-Way Mode in trading settings.
* You have exceeded the limit of 10 active or pending grid strategies.
#### **Grid Termination**
A grid will terminate if:
* You manually stop the grid.
* Insufficient margin causes positions to be liquidated or prevents orders from being placed.
* You manually cancel some or all grid limit orders.
* You manually close some or all grid positions.
# Auto Grid Trading
1. Navigate to the right sidebar of the Futures Grid trading interface.
2. On the \[Auto] tab, review the recommended parameters and set your \[Initial Margin].
<figure><img src="https://4068247257-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FWhSHuKmgnGREbVb12PK2%2Fuploads%2FKmCqWttJsjbvHYZA0z7O%2F%E6%88%AA%E5%B1%8F2025-05-15%2017.26.38.png?alt=media&token=c7877ff5-9bb7-4e0d-85da-183a3e4231c2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
\
3\. Click \[Create] and confirm your grid order. The system automatically places buy and sell orders at the preset prices.
<figure><img src="https://4068247257-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FWhSHuKmgnGREbVb12PK2%2Fuploads%2FjMSpalWPHjBK2Dzt31E6%2F%E6%88%AA%E5%B1%8F2025-05-15%2017.27.03.png?alt=media&token=5f5a659a-04b9-4165-b618-7c5d1c0b8027" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
**Note:** The auto parameters function will not work if there is insufficient trading history for a given asset. In that case, set parameters manually or click \[Copy parameters to Manual settings] to adjust the lower price, upper price, and grid number.
### How Auto Parameters Are Calculated
#### Upper & Lower Price (Bollinger Bands) <a href="#a398" id="a398"></a>
* Upper Band = MA + bbm \* Standard Deviation
* Lower Band = MA — bbm \* Standard Deviation
#### Grid Number <a href="#id-5684" id="id-5684"></a>
Grid Number = (grid\_upper\_limit — grid\_lower\_limit)/ATR
\*Average True Range (ATR) for the past pre-defined hours of the selected symbol
**Risk Reminder:** Grid trading is a strategic tool and should not be considered financial or investment advice from Aster. If your grid settings are unreasonable, you may not capture grid revenue when the market moves in one direction outside your set range. Adjust your strategy based on current market conditions. Grid trading is used at your own discretion and risk. Aster is not liable for any losses arising from the use of this feature.
# Long/Short Grid Trading
### **What is Long/Short Grid Trading?**
Long/Short Grid combines a directional position with a grid trading system. You open an initial long or short position to express a market view, then layer buy and sell limit orders at regular intervals around the current price to capture volatility as the market moves.
The key difference from neutral grid: a long grid opens with an initial long position, a short grid opens with an initial short position. This lets you trade with a trend while the grid captures oscillations within your defined range.
**Example:** A trader bullish on BTC opens a long position in BTCUSDT, then places buy orders every $1,000 below the current price and sell orders every $1,000 above it — holding directional exposure while profiting from range movement.
###  **Placing a Long/Short Grid Order**
1. On the grid trading panel, enter your strategy parameters:
| Parameter | Description |
| -------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **Upper Price** | Top boundary of the grid range. |
| **Lower Price** | Bottom boundary of the grid range. |
| **Number of Orders** | How many orders to place within the range. |
| **Grid Width** | The price interval between each order. |
| **Initial Margin** | Capital allocated to open and maintain the strategy. |
**Note:** If the current market price is above your grid range when the strategy starts, it will launch with zero position.
2. Set your initial margin. The system calculates the minimum required based on your grid count, leverage, and price range — denser grids require more margin.
**Note:** Each grid order must meet the minimum notional value requirement. If it doesn't, reduce the grid count or increase your initial margin. When margin falls below the minimum, the interface will display the exact amount needed to activate the strategy. Ensure your available balance and maintenance margin stay above the initial margin to avoid liquidation.
3. Click **\[Create]** to place the grid order.
### **P\&L Calculation**
Long/Short Grid P\&L accounts for both matched (fully completed) and unmatched (partially completed) grid transactions.
| Metric | Definition | Calculation |
| --------------------------- | --------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Unmatched P\&L** | P\&L on incomplete grid pairs | (Latest price − unmatched pair's avg price) × unmatched volume |
| **Total Realized P\&L** | Total realised profit/loss since launch | Matched grid income + unmatched P\&L |
| **Yield (ROI)** | Total return on invested margin | Total profit ÷ initial margin × 100% |
| **Annualised Return (APR)** | ROI scaled to a yearly rate | ROI × (365 days ÷ days running) |
### **Advanced Settings**
**Trigger Price** — Set a price level at which the grid activates. The bot stays dormant until the market reaches your trigger, then begins placing orders based on your parameters.
**Stop Loss** — Define a price level outside your grid range. If the asset price breaches it, the entire grid position closes automatically, limiting downside if the market moves against the strategy.
**Monitoring and closing:**
* Click **\[Active Grid]** to view live grid details, order status, and P\&L.
* Click **\[Terminate]** to close the grid strategy and all associated orders.
# Grid 2.0
## Perpetual Grid 2.0
### Overview
Perpetual Grid 2.0 lets you run automated Grid strategies independently from your regular Perpetual trading.
Each Grid strategy operates through a dedicated subaccount, keeping its positions and margin separate from your main Perpetual account. This means you can run Grid strategies and trade Perpetuals at the same time without their positions interfering with each other.
When you create a Grid strategy, the initial margin is automatically transferred from your Perpetual account to its Grid Bot subaccount.
Perpetual Grid 2.0 supports two margin modes:
* Cross Margin — Margin is shared among Cross Grid strategies using the same settlement asset.
* Isolated Margin — Margin is managed separately for each Grid strategy.
When the Grid is fully closed, the remaining funds are automatically transferred back to your Perpetual account.
Important: Transferring funds to a Grid Bot reduces the available balance in your Perpetual account and may affect the risk of your existing Perpetual positions.
***
## Grid Subaccount Structure
### Cross Margin
Cross Grid strategies using the same settlement asset share the same Cross margin balance.
You can run up to one Cross Grid per trading pair.
For example, you can have:
* One BTCUSDT Cross Grid
* One ETHUSDT Cross Grid
These strategies share the Cross margin pool for the same settlement asset.
Because the margin is shared, a liquidation event can affect all Cross Grid strategies using that shared margin pool. Manage the margin of each Cross Grid carefully to control your overall liquidation risk.
### Isolated Margin
Each Isolated Grid runs in its own dedicated subaccount with a separate margin.
You can run up to 50 Isolated Grid strategies across your account, with no per-trading pair limit.
For example, you can run multiple Isolated Grids on the same trading pair, with each strategy maintaining its own isolated margin and liquidation risk.
***
## Grid Margin Asset
Grid margin must be provided in the settlement asset of the selected market.
For example, if a market requires USDT as its settlement asset, you must have sufficient USDT in your Futures account to create the Grid.
Aster does not automatically convert another asset into the required settlement asset.
If your account does not have enough of the required asset, the Grid cannot be created.
***
## Creating a Grid
Grid 2.0 is currently available for Main Accounts only. Grid strategies created from user Subaccounts will continue to operate under the existing Grid mechanism.
When you create a new Grid:
1. Configure your trading pair, price range, grid quantity, initial margin, and margin mode.
2. Confirm your Grid settings.
3. Your initial margin is transferred from your Futures account to the Grid Bot account.
4. The Grid strategy starts running.
The transfer is shown in your transaction history as Trading bot transfer.
#### Important
Creating a Grid transfers funds out of your Perpetual account. This reduces the funds available in your Perpetual account, which may affect the risk of your other Perpetual positions.
Review your available Perpetual balance and overall account risk before creating a Grid.
***
## Managing Your Grid Bots
The Grid Bot page provides an overview of your Grid strategies and assets.
You can view:
* Total Value
* Cross Margin and Isolated Margin balances
* Running Grid strategies
* Grid assets
* Unrealized PnL
* Margin Ratio
* Initial / Invested Margin
* Estimated liquidation price
You can also access details and adjust margin for individual Grid strategies.
***
## Adjust Margin
You can add or remove margin from a running Grid.
#### Add Margin
Adding margin increases the funds supporting the Grid and can improve its liquidation risk.
#### Remove Margin
You can remove only the amount available for transfer from the Grid.
Removing margin can increase liquidation risk. Do not remove margin if doing so could leave the Grid under-margined.
Adjusting margin does not change the Grid's number of grids or existing position size. It only changes the amount of margin supporting the strategy.
#### Cross vs. Isolated
For Cross Grid strategies, adjusting margin affects the shared Cross margin pool for the relevant settlement asset.
For Isolated Grid strategies, the adjustment applies only to that individual Grid.
The margin mode cannot be changed while a Grid is running.

## Grid Details
Open Details to view information about an individual Grid, including:
* Trading pair
* Price range
* Grid quantity
* Leverage
* Margin mode
* Grid status
* Matched profit
* Unmatched PnL
* Funding fees
* Trading fees
* Position information
* Margin balance
* Estimated liquidation price
For a Grid that has been stopped while retaining an open position, the Details page also allows you to manage and close the remaining position.\

Grid portfolio:\
The recording behavior depends on the account type and grid strategy version:
Grid 2.0 — For grid strategies running under grid 2.0 , trading volume and PnL are recorded under the Grid account.
Legacy Grid (Old Version) — For grid strategies running under the legacy grid framework, trading volume and PnL are recorded under the Perp account.
Special Case: Regular Sub-Account — Regular sub-accounts do not support the grid 2.0. Therefore, any portfolio data (volume and PnL) generated by grid strategies under a regular sub-account will be recorded under the Perp account.

## Ending a Grid
When ending a running Grid, you can choose between two options:
#### Close Positions Immediately
Aster will:
1. Cancel the Grid's open orders.
2. Close the Grid's positions at market price.
3. Complete the remaining settlement.
4. Return the applicable funds to your Futures account.
The transfer back to your Futures account is recorded as Trading bot transfer.
#### Keep Positions Open
You can also end the Grid strategy while keeping its existing position open.
In this case:
* Grid orders are cancelled.
* The remaining position stays open.
* The Grid enters Stopped - position open.
* The margin supporting the position remains allocated to the Grid.
* You can later close the position partially or fully from Details.
* You can add margin while the position remains open.
* Once the position is fully closed, the remaining applicable funds are returned to your Futures account.
A Grid in Stopped - position open can still be liquidated if its remaining position does not have sufficient margin.
To manage the remaining position, open the Grid's Details page and go to the Position section. You can close the position partially or fully using either a Market or Limit order. If you place a Limit order, you can view the open order in the Grid's Details page.
Once the position is fully closed, the remaining applicable funds are returned to your Futures account.
***
## Cross Margin Fund Return
Cross Grid strategies using the same settlement asset share a common margin pool.
Therefore, if you end one Cross Grid while other Cross Grids using the same settlement asset are still active, the shared margin pool may retain funds needed to support those remaining strategies.
When the final Cross Grid using that settlement asset is closed, the remaining balance in the shared Grid Bot account is returned and the account is closed.
This means the amount returned when ending an individual Cross Grid may differ from the total balance displayed for the shared Cross margin pool.
***
## Trading Bot Transfer Records
When funds are moved between your Futures account and the Grid Bot account, the transaction history records the movement as Trading bot transfer.
Generally:
* Creating a Grid → funds are transferred into the Grid Bot account.
* Finalizing a Grid → applicable remaining funds are transferred back to your Futures account.
If you choose to keep a position open when ending a Grid, the return transfer occurs only after the remaining position is fully closed.
***
## Grid PnL
Grid Bot displays the performance of each strategy using several PnL components:
* Matched Profit — realized profit generated from completed Grid trades.
* Unmatched PnL — unrealized profit or loss from open Grid positions.
* Funding Fee — funding payments associated with the Grid position.
* Trading Fees — applicable trading fees.
Unrealized PnL is calculated using the Mark Price.
***
## Important Risk Information
#### Cross Margin Risk
Cross Grid strategies using the same settlement asset share margin. If the shared Cross margin pool is liquidated, multiple Cross Grid strategies using that pool may be affected.
#### Isolated Margin Risk
Each Isolated Grid has its own margin. A liquidation of one Isolated Grid does not directly use the margin allocated to another Isolated Grid.
#### Futures Account Balance
Creating a Grid transfers its initial margin from your Futures account. This reduces the funds available in your Futures account and may affect the margin and liquidation risk of other Futures positions.
#### Removing Margin
Removing margin can increase liquidation risk. Only remove funds that are available for transfer.
#### Stopped - Position Open
Ending a Grid without closing its position does not remove the position or its liquidation risk. The position remains open until you close it or it is liquidated.

You can run one Cross Grid per trading pair.
#### How many Isolated Grids can I run?
You can run up to 50 Isolated Grid strategies across your account. There is no per-trading pair limit.
#### Can I run multiple Grids on the same trading pair?
Yes. Multiple Grids can run on the same trading pair when using Isolated Margin.
For Cross Margin, only one Cross Grid can run on the same trading pair.
#### Can I use any asset as Grid margin?
No. Grid margin must be provided in the market's settlement asset. Aster does not automatically convert other assets for you.
#### Can I change Cross to Isolated while my Grid is running?
No. The margin mode cannot be changed while the Grid is running.
#### Can I add or remove margin?
Yes. Both Cross and Isolated Grids support adding and removing margin.
#### Does adding margin change my Grid strategy?
No. Adjusting margin changes the funds supporting the Grid but does not change the number of grids or existing position size.
#### Where are my Grid positions and orders?
New Grid positions and orders are managed within the Grid Bot environment. They are not displayed as ordinary positions and orders in your main Futures account; use the Grid Bot page and Details to manage them.
#### What happens if I end my Grid but keep the position open?
The Grid enters Stopped - position open. Its Grid orders are cancelled, but the existing position remains open and can still be liquidated. You can manage or close the position from Details.
#### When will my funds return to my Futures account?
When the Grid is fully finalized and its position has been closed, the applicable remaining funds are transferred back to your Futures account. The transfer appears as a Trading bot transfer in your transaction history.
#### Does stopping a Grid cancel my other Futures orders?
No. Grid Bot orders are managed separately from your main Futures orders. Ending a Grid cancels the orders belonging to that Grid and does not cancel your other Futures orders.
